And to the minister of the church in Sardis- write a message from the One who
has the seven spirits of God and the seven stars- I know what you are doing (your works),
and that you have a name for being alive, but you are (spiritually) dead
Revelation 3:1
(Revelation 3:1).
(Spiritually) wake up, and reestablish the rest of all that is ready to die, for I have
not found what you are doing (your works) satisfactory (perfect) in the sight of God
(Revelation 3:2).
Remember what you have (spiritually) received and heard- and continue on
(with that) but repent (of your spiritual apostasy). If you will not spiritually wake up,
I will come (quickly) as a thief to you but you will not know at what time
(Revelation 3:3).
And to the angel of the church in Sardis- write a message from the One who has
the seven Spirits of God and the seven stars- I know your works, that you
have a name that you are alive, but you are (spiritually) dead.

It appears this scripture stands alone and is not repeated in other scrolls of Revelation.
I would like to share a few of my thoughts here:

This scripture appears to be linked to verse five in this same chapter and scroll. What is this
about? A scroll was kept in ancient cities of the names of their alive citizens- the names of
the dead were, of course, blotted out or erased. God wants each of His Overcomers to be
spiritually alive so their names appear in His scroll of life. The names of the wicked will not
appear in His scroll of life.
God reveals this in several scrolls of Revelation:
It is revealed in this Revelation Scroll Number Six-
He who overcomes shall be clothed in white garments, and I will not blot out his
name from the Scroll of Life (because he or she is not spiritually dead)- but I will
confess his name before My Father and before His angels
(Revelation 3:5
And anyone not found written in the Scroll of Life was cast into the lake of fire
(Revelation 20:15
But there shall by no means enter it- anything that defiles, or causes an abomination
or a lie, but only those who are written in the Lamb's Scroll of Life
(Revelation 21:27
I will blot out whoever has sinned against Me
(Exodus 32:31-33).
(Psalm 69:28).
At the time (of the end) Michael, the archangel who stands guard over your nation, will
arise. Then there will be a time of anguish greater than any since nations first came
into existence. But at that time every one of your people, whose name is written in the
scroll, will be saved
(Daniel 12:1).
For the Lord saw that the affliction of Israel was very bitter- and whether bond or free, there
was no helper for Israel. And the Lord did not say that He would blot out the name of Israel
from under heaven- but He saved them by the hand of Jeroboam the son of Joash
(2 Kings 14:26-27).
(Spiritually) wake up, and reestablish the rest of all that is ready to (spiritually) die, for
I have not found what you are doing (your works) satisfactory (perfect) in the sight of God.
Are there other scrolls in the bible that appear to reveal this? I think so- especially in
regards to the watchman who stood guard to help protect an ancient city from attack:
Unless the Lord builds the house, they labor in vain who build it- unless the Lord
guards the city, the watchman stays awake in vain
(Psalm 127:1).
(Isaiah 21:6-9).
Again the word of the Lord came to me, saying- son of man, speak to the children of your
people, and say to them- when I bring the sword upon a land, and the people of the land take a
man from their territory and make him their watchman, when he sees the sword coming upon the
land, if he blows the trumpet and warns the people, then whoever hears the sound of the trumpet
and does not take warning, if the sword comes and takes him away, his blood shall be on his own
head. He heard the sound of the trumpet, but did not take warning- his blood shall be upon
himself. But he who takes warning will save his life. But if the watchman sees the sword coming
and does not blow the trumpet, and the people are not warned, and the sword comes and takes any
person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity- but his blood I will require at the
watchman's hand. So you, son of man- I have made you a watchman for the house of Israel- therefore
you shall hear a word from My mouth and warn them for Me. When I say to the wicked- O
wicked man, you shall surely die! and you do not speak to warn the wicked from his way, that
wicked man shall die in his iniquity- but his blood I will require at your hand. Nevertheless
if you warn the wicked to turn from his way, and he does not turn from his way, he shall die in
his iniquity- but you have delivered your soul
(Ezekiel 33:1-9).
This church was spiritually dead. As such it was failing to fulfill it's
God willed destiny (I have not found what you are doing satisfactory in symbolism).
The Lord began teaching them to spiritually wake up (arise from the dead) and help others
spiritually (reestablish the rest of all that is ready to die in symbolism).
The Lord warned them to be watchful. Why? I believe that this warning is tied in with the
history of their city. Twice this city had been conquered in the past because the night
watchman went to sleep on watch (on the job). As a result, the enemy had been able to
get over the walls, kill the watchman, and open the city for invasion. The Lord did not want
that to spiritually happen to the church in Sardis. They were to be spiritually vigilant so
Satan could not take advantage of them.
To make a possible application of this scripture- you and I have to stay alert and be
spiritually watchful against Satan and his false teachers. We are not to spiritually fall
asleep. Here is what the Apostle Peter stated-
Be sober, be vigilant- because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion,
walks about, seeking whom he may devour
(1 Peter 5:8).
Remember what you have (spiritually) received and heard- and continue on
(with that) but repent (of your spiritual apostasy). If you will not spiritually wake up,
I will come (quickly) as a thief to you but you will not know at what time.
God reveals "remember" in some scrolls of Revelation:
It is revealed in Revelation Scroll Number Two-
Remember where you were at first, and be changed in heart from where you have
(spiritually) fallen (due to your spiritual apostasy)- repent and do the first works...
(Revelation 2:5).
Remember what you have (spiritually) received and heard- hold fast and repent (of your
spiritual apostasy)...
(Revelation 3:3).
(Luke 17:32).
(Luke 24:1-8).
Then the Jews said- it has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and will You raise it
up in three days? But He was speaking of the temple of His body. Therefore, when He had risen
from the dead, His disciples remembered that He had said this to them- and they believed
the Scripture and the word which Jesus had said
(John 2:20-22).
We give thanks to God always for you all, making mention of you in our prayers, remembering
without ceasing your work of faith, labor of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus
Christ in the sight of our God and Father, knowing, beloved brethren, your election by God.
For our gospel did not come to you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Spirit and
in much assurance, as you know what kind of men we were among you for your sake. And you became
followers of us and of the Lord, having received the word in much affliction, with joy of the
Holy Spirit, so that you became examples to all in Macedonia and Achaia who believe. For from
you the word of the Lord has sounded forth, not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but also in every
place. Your faith toward God has gone out, so that we do not need to say anything. For they
themselves declare concerning us what manner of entry we had to you, and how you turned to God
from idols to serve the living and true God, and to wait for His Son from heaven, whom He
raised from the dead, even Jesus who delivers us from the wrath to come
(1 Thessalonians 1:2-10).
Remember that Jesus Christ, of the seed of David, was raised from the dead according to
my gospel, for which I suffer trouble as an evildoer, even to the point of chains- but the word
of God is not chained
(2 Timothy 2:8-9).
But you, beloved, remember the words which were spoken before by the apostles of our
Lord Jesus Christ- how they told you that there would be mockers in the last time who would
walk according to their own ungodly lusts. These are sensual persons, who cause divisions, not
having the Spirit
(Jude 1:17-19).
It appears this scripture stands alone in Revelation and is not repeated in multiple scrolls:
Are there other scrolls in the bible that appear to reveal this? Yes. Here are a few:
For though I am absent in the flesh, yet I am with you in spirit, rejoicing to see your good
order and the steadfastness of your faith in Christ. As you have therefore received Christ
Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you
have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving. Beware lest anyone cheat you through
philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic
principles of the world, and not according to Christ
(Colossians 2:5-8).
For this is God's will- your purity of life, that you abstain from fornication- that each man
among you shall know how to procure a wife who shall be his own in purity and honour- that you
be not overmastered by lustful cravings, like the Gentiles who have no knowledge of God- and
that in this matter there be no encroaching on the rights of a brother Christian and no
overreaching him. For the Lord is an avenger in all such cases, as we have already taught you
and solemnly warned you. God has not called us to an unclean life, but to one of purity
(1 Thessalonians 4:3-7).
O Timothy, guard the truths entrusted to you, shunning irreligious and frivolous talk, and
controversy with what is falsely called knowledge- of which some have spoken boastfully in
connection with the true faith, and have erred...
(1 Timothy 6:20-21).
