(Revelation 2:1).

I know your works, your labor, your patience- and that you cannot bear those who are evil. And you have tested those who say they are apostles and are not, and have found them liars
(Revelation 2:2).

Revelation 2:1
To the angel of the church of Ephesus write- these things says He who holds the seven stars in His right hand, who walks in the middle of the seven golden lampstands.

The Angel of the Church of Ephesus

The angel of Ephesus is revealed to be one of seven such angels in symbolism. It appears this revelation was previously revealed in Revelation Scroll Number One

The greatest message ever heard came from an empty tomb

Write the Word of God

Christ commanded the Apostle John to write His letter and then send it Ephesus. This letter was the Word of God and it was important to send it out. Our commission today is also to share the Word of God with others (Mark 16:15). Then he was to send other letters into the harvest field beyond Ephesus. Where were they sent? This is revealed in several scrolls of Revelation:

What you see, write in a scroll and send it to the seven churches that are in Asia- to Ephesus, to Smyrna, to Pergamos, to Thyatira, to Sardis, to Philadelphia, and to Laodicea
(Revelation 1:11).

Write... (Revelation 1:19).

(to) the church of Ephesus write (Revelation 2:1).

to...the church in Smyrna write (Revelation 2:8).

to the...the church in Pergamos write (Revelation 2:12).

to the...church in Thyatira write (Revelation 2:18).

to the...church in Sardis write (Revelation 3:1).

to the...church in Philadelphia write (Revelation 3:7).

to the...church of the Laodiceans write (Revelation 3:14).

I heard a voice from Heaven saying to me- write (Revelation 14:13).

...then he said to me- write (Revelation 19:9).

Then He who sat on the throne said...to me- write (Revelation 21:5).

And God has commanded others to write on scrolls the Word of God-
Yahweh said to Moses- write you these words- for in accordance with these words I have made a covenant with you and with Israel
(Exodus 34:27).

Now go, write it before them on a tablet, and inscribe it in a scroll, that it may be for the time to come- forever and ever
(Isaiah 30:8).

The word that came to Jeremiah from Yahweh, saying, thus speaks Yahweh, the God of Israel, saying- write all the words that I have spoken to you in a scroll
(Jeremiah 30:1-2)...in the latter days you shall understand it
(Jeremiah 30:24).

If they be ashamed of all that they have done...write it in their sight...
(Ezekiel 43:11).

Yahweh answered me- write the vision, and make it plain on tablets, that he may run who reads it- for the vision is yet for the appointed time, and it hurries toward the end, and will not prove false. Though it takes time, wait for it- because it will surely come. It will not delay
(Habakkuk 2:2-3).

Yet for all this we make a sure covenant, and write it- and our princes, our Levites, [and] our priests, seal to it
(Nehemiah 9:38).

...it seemed good to me also, having traced the course of all things accurately from the first, to write to you in order, most excellent Theophilus that you might know the certainty concerning the things in which you were instructed
(Luke 1:3-4).

...therefore my judgment is that we do not trouble those from among the Gentiles who turn to God, but that we write to them that they abstain from the pollution of idols, from sexual immorality, from what is strangled, and from blood. For Moses from generations of old has in every city those who preach him, being read in the synagogues every Sabbath...
(Acts 15:19-21).

If any man thinks himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him recognize the things that I write to you, that they are the commandment of the Lord
(1 Corinthians 14:37).

Revelation 2:2
I know your works, your labor, your patience- and that you cannot tolerate those who are evil, but have put to the test those who say that they themselves are Apostles but are not, and you have found them to be (lifestyle) liars.

I Know Your Works and Your Labor

The Greek word, labor, in this verse can refer to trouble unto weariness. How does Jesus know these things? Jesus Christ is God the Son and He is omniscient- meaning that He knows everything.

God mentions works and labor in several scrolls of Revelation:

This is revealed here in Revelation Scroll Number Two-
I know your works and your labor...(Revelation 2:2).

This is revealed in Revelation Scroll Number Five-
I know your works and your love and your service and your faith and your patient endurance and that your current works are better than your first ones (Revelation 2:19)...all the churches shall know that I AM He who searches the minds and hearts. And I will give to each one of you according to your works
(Revelation 2:23)...and he who overcomes, and keeps My works until the end, to him I will give power over the nations
(Revelation 2:26).

This is revealed in Revelation Scroll Number Seven-
I know your works. See, I have set before you an open door, and no one can shut it- for you have a little strength, have kept My word, and have not denied My name
(Revelation 3:8).

This is revealed in Revelation Scroll Number Ten-
Then I heard a voice from Heaven saying to me- write- blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on. Yes, says the Spirit, that they may rest from their labors, and their works follow them
(Revelation 14:13).

Then I heard a voice from Heaven saying to me- write, blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on. Yes, says the Spirit- that they may rest from their labors, and their works follow them (Revelation 14:13)...they sing the song of Moses, the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying- great and marvelous are Your works, Lord God Almighty! Just and true are Your ways, O King of the Saints
(Revelation 15:3).

This is revealed in Revelation Scroll Number Eleven-
..and I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and scroll books were opened. And another scroll book was opened- that is the Scroll Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things that were written in the scroll books
(Revelation 20:12).

This is revealed in Revelation Scroll Number Twelve-
And behold, I AM coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to every one according to his work
(Revelation 22:12).

Note: the Lord, as Head of the Church, knows what the spiritual condition of each church is and what each church is doing for Him in His name. Christ always praises His spiritual children before He criticizes them. What did He praise them for? He praised them for seven things-
1) Their good works towards God (their worship) (Mark 12:30),
2) Their love towards God and others (1 Corinthians 13:4),
3) Their help (service) (Matthew 25:40),
4) Their faith in God (Hebrews 11:6),
5) Their spiritual strength in trouble (patience and endurance) (2 Corinthians 12:9),
6) Their good works to others on His behalf (James 2:14-26),
7) Their final works were greater than their first works (Acts 1:8).

In each Overcomer there should be fruit that is produced by God the Holy Spirit. To God be the glory.

So, what are some possible select biblical scriptures for this verse above in Revelation?

What are the works of God?
And when John (the Baptist) had heard in prison about the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples and said to Him- are You the Coming One, or do we look for another? Jesus answered and said to them- go and tell John the things that you hear and see- the blind see and the lame walk- the lepers are cleansed and the deaf hear- the dead are raised up and the poor have the gospel preached to them. And blessed is he who is not offended because of Me
(Matthew 11:2).

For the Son of Man will come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and then He will reward each according to his works
(Matthew 16:27).

But I have a greater witness than John's- for the works that the Father has given Me to finish- the very works that I do- bear witness of Me, that the Father has sent Me
(John 5:36).

Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also- and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father
(John 14:12).

Therefore, King Agrippa, I was not disobedient to the heavenly vision, but declared first to those in Damascus and in Jerusalem, and throughout all the region of Judea, and then to the Gentiles, that they should repent, turn to God, and do works befitting repentance
(Acts 26:19-20).

The works of His hands are truth and justice. All his precepts are sure
(Psalm 111:7).

Oh, that men would give thanks to the Lord for His goodness, and for His wonderful works to the children of men!
(Psalm 107:21).

"Have patience with all things, but first of all with yourself"
-St. Francis de Sales

The Patience of the Saints

What is the patience (perseverance) of the saints?
The Greek word here for patience in this verse can refer to perseverance, steadfastness, constancy, endurance, and a sustaining faith. This can be representative of an Overcomer who is not swerved from his deliberate purpose and his loyalty to Christ- even in the greatest of trials and sufferings.

God reveals the patience of the saints in several scrolls of Revelation:

It is revealed in Revelation Scroll Number Two-
I know your works, your labor, your patience...(Revelation 2:2).

It is revealed in Revelation Scroll Number Five-
I know your works, love, service, faith, and your patience...(Revelation 2:19).

It is revealed in Revelation Scroll Number Seven-
Because you have kept My command to persevere (the word of My patience), I also will keep you from the hour of trial that shall come upon the whole world, to test those who dwell on the earth
(Revelation 3:10).

It is revealed in Revelation Scroll Number Nine-
Anyone who is willing to hear should listen and understand. The people who are destined for prison will be arrested and taken away. Those who are destined for death will be killed. But do not be dismayed, for here is your opportunity to have patient endurance and faith
(Revelation 13:9-10).

Here is the patience of the saints- here are those who keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus
(Revelation 14:12).

Are there other scrolls in the bible that appear to reveal this? Yes. Here are a few-

But the ones that fell on the good ground are those who, having heard the word with a noble and good heart, keep it and bear fruit with patience
(Luke 8:15).

...by your endurance you will win your souls (Luke 21:19).

O Lord, You know- remember me and visit me, and take vengeance for me on my persecutors. In Your enduring patience, do not take me away. Know that for Your sake I have suffered rebuke
(Jeremiah 15:15).

Now may the God of patience and comfort grant you to be like-minded toward one another, according to Christ Jesus, that you may with one mind and one mouth glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ
(Romans 15:5-6).

We give thanks to God always for you all, making mention of you in our prayers, remembering without ceasing your work of faith, labor of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ in the sight of our God and Father...
(I Thessalonians 1:2-3).

We proudly tell God's other churches about your patient endurance and faithfulness in all the persecutions and hardships you are suffering. But God will use this persecution to show His justice. For He will make you worthy of His Kingdom, for which you are suffering, and in His justice He will punish those who persecute you
(2 Thessalonians 1:4-6).

My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing
(James 1:2-4).

An honest man alters his works to fit the truth
while a dishonest man alters the truth to fit his works

One who lives a lie (a lifestyle liar), hypocrit, pretender, or deceiver

A person can say one thing and do the opposite. Or, a person can appear to be one way and be the opposite. Such an individual is said to be living a lie. In other words, a liar is not necessarily one who tells a lie but one who lives a lie- a lifestyle liar, hypocrit, pretender, or deceiver. I believe this is what is going on here.

God reveals lifestyle liars in several scrolls of Revelation. Note that God refers to them as- those who are evil, blasphemers, of the synagogue of Satan, those who will be thrown into the lake of fire, those who cause abominations, and those who will not be allowed into Heaven:

Lifestyle liars are revealed in Revelation Scroll Number Two-
I know your works, your labor, your patience, and that you cannot bear those who are evil. And you have tested those who say they are apostles and are not- and have found them (to be lifestyle) liars
(Revelation 2:2).

It is revealed in Revelation Scroll Number Three-
I know your works, tribulation, and poverty (but you are rich)- and I know the blasphemy (lifestyle lies) of those who say they are (saved) Jews and are not, but are a synagogue of Satan (unsaved)
(Revelation 2:9).

It is revealed in Revelation Scroll Number Seven-
Indeed I will make those of the synagogue of Satan, who say they are (saved) Jews and are not but lie- indeed I will make them come and worship before your feet, and to know that I have loved you
(Revelation 3:9).

It is revealed in Revelation Scroll Number Nine-
Then I saw another beast (the false prophet) coming up out of the earth, and he had two horns like a (counterfeit lamb living a lifestyle lie) but spoke like the great serpent (dragon)
(Revelation 13:11)...and he deceives those who dwell on the earth by those signs that he was granted to do in the sight of the beast, telling those who dwell on the earth to make an idol of the beast who was wounded by the sword and lived. He was granted power to give breath to the idol of the beast, that the idol of the beast should both speak and cause as many as would not worship the idol of the beast to be killed
(Revelation 13:14-15).

It is revealed in Revelation Scroll Number Twelve-
...but the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all (lifestyle) liars shall have their part in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone- that is the second death
(Revelation 21:8)

But there shall by no means enter it anything that defiles, or causes an abomination or a (lifestyle) lie, but only those who are written in the Lamb's Book of Life
(Revelation 21:27).

But outside are dogs and sorcerers and sexually immoral and murderers and idolaters, and whoever loves and practices a (lifestyle) lie
(Revelation 22:15).

Are there other scrolls in the bible that reveal lifestyle liars? Yes. Here are a few-

Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for you are like white washed tombs that indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men's bones and all uncleanness. Even so you also outwardly appear righteous to men, but within you are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.
(Matthew 23:27-28).

Since we have heard that some who went out from us (as Christians) have troubled you with words, unsettling your souls, saying- you must be circumcised and keep the law- to whom we gave no such commandment
(Acts 15:24).

Yet not even Titus who was with me, being a Greek, was compelled to be circumcised. And this occurred because of false brethren secretly brought in (who came in by stealth to spy out our liberty that we have in Christ Jesus, that they might bring us into bondage), to whom we did not yield submission even for an hour, that the truth of the gospel might continue with you
(Galatians 2:3-5).

Little children, it is the last hour- and as you have heard that the antichrist is coming- even now many antichrists have come, by which we know that it is the last hour. They went out from us (as Christians), but they were not of us- for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us- but they went out that they might be made manifest, that none of them were of us
(1 John 2:18-19).

For certain men have crept in unnoticed, who long ago were marked out for this condemnation, ungodly men, who turn the grace of our God into lewdness and deny the only Lord God and our Lord Jesus Christ (Jude 1:4)...these are sensual persons, who cause divisions, not having the Spirit (Jude 1:19).

I marvel that you are turning away so soon from Him who called you in the grace of Christ, to a different gospel, that is not another- but there are some who trouble you and want to pervert the gospel of Christ. But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed
(Galatians 1:6-8).

Then Satan entered Judas, surnamed Iscariot, who was numbered among the twelve
(Luke 22:3)...he was a thief, and had the money box- and he used to take what was put in it
(John 12:6)...then Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve, went to the chief priests to betray Him (Jesus) to them (Mark 14:10)...now he that betrayed him gave them a sign, saying- whomsoever I shall kiss, that same is He- hold Him fast. And forthwith he came to Jesus, and said- hail, master- and kissed him (Matthew 26:48-49)...but Jesus said unto him- Judas, do you betray the Son of Man with a kiss?
(Luke 22:48).

You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it
(John 8:44).

Offering a lie in worship to God-
But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession. And he kept back part of the proceeds, his wife also being aware of it, and brought a certain part and laid it at the apostles' feet. But Peter said- Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and keep back part of the price of the land for yourself? While it remained, was it not your own? And after it was sold, was it not in your own control? Why have you conceived this thing in your heart? You have not lied to men but to God. Then Ananias, hearing these words, fell down and breathed his last. So great fear came upon all those who heard these things
(Acts 5:1-5).
