Revelation 1:18 Christ Has the Keys of Death & Hell

He had seven stars in His right hand. Out of His mouth proceeded a sharp two-edged sword. His face was like the sun shining at its brightest
(Revelation 1:16).

When I saw Him, I fell at His feet like a dead man. He laid His right hand on me, saying-
do not be afraid. I AM the First and the Last-
(Revelation 1:17).

I AM the Living one. I was dead, but behold, I AM alive forevermore. I have the keys of death and of Hades
(Revelation 1:18).

Are there any Bible scriptures that might help us understand these verses here in Revelation? In my opinion I think so-

Revelation 1:16
He had seven stars in His right hand. Out of His mouth proceeded a sharp two-edged sword. His face was like the sun shining at its brightest.

The Seven Stars of Christ

The seven stars (Revelation 1:16) represent seven angels (Revelation 1:20). These stars are symbols representing another symbol. This is a classic example of the use and style of apocalyptic literature.

The Seven Stars of Christ are revealed in several scrolls of Revelation:

They are revealed in Revelation Scroll Number One-
He had seven stars in His right hand. Out of His mouth proceeded a sharp two-edged sword. His face was like the sun shining at its brightest
(Revelation 1:16).

The mystery of the seven stars that you saw in My right hand, and the seven golden lampstands- the seven stars are the angels of the seven churches, and the seven lampstands that you saw are the seven churches
(Revelation 1:20).

They are revealed in Revelation Scroll Number Two-
To the angel of the church of Ephesus write- these things says He who holds the seven stars in His right hand, who walks in the middle of the seven golden lampstands...
(Revelation 2:1).

And they are revealed in Revelation Scroll Number Six-
And to the angel of the church in Sardis write- these things says He who has the seven Spirits of God and the seven stars- I know your works, that you have a name that you are alive, but you are dead
(Revelation 3:1).

The Right Hand of Christ

The Right Hand of Christ is revealed in several Revelation Scrolls:

It is revealed in Revelation Scroll Number One-
He had seven stars in His right hand. Out of His mouth proceeded a sharp two-edged sword. His face was like the sun shining at its brightest
(Revelation 1:16).

When I saw Him, I fell at His feet like a dead man. He laid His right hand on me, saying-
do not be afraid. I AM the First and the Last
(Revelation 1:17).

...the mystery of the seven stars that you saw in My right hand, and the seven golden lampstands. The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches. The seven lampstands are seven churches
(Revelation 1:20).

It is revealed in Revelation Scroll Number Two-
To the angel of the church in Ephesus write- He who holds the seven stars in His right hand, He who walks in the middle of the seven golden lampstands says these things...
(Revelation 2:1).

It is revealed in Revelation Scroll Number Nine-
I saw, in the right hand of Him who sat on the throne, a scroll written within and on the back, sealed shut with seven seals
(Revelation 5:1).

Then He (the Lamb) came, and He took it out of the right hand of Him Who sat on the throne
(Revelation 5:7).

The Right Hand of God is revealed in other scrolls of scripture, as well. Let us take a look at only a few of them-

The right hand of God's power
Your right hand, O Lord, has become glorious in power- Your right hand, O Lord, has dashed the enemy in pieces
(Exodus 15:6).

The right hand of God's creation
Yes, My hand has laid the foundation of the earth, and My right hand has spread out the heavens- when I call to them, they stand up together...
(Isaiah 48:13).

The right hand of trust
Yahweh has sworn by His right hand
(Isaiah 62:8).

The right hand of salvation
The voice of rejoicing and salvation is in the tents of the righteous. The right hand of Yahweh does valiantly
(Psalm 118:15).

Sing to Yahweh a new song for He has done marvelous things! His right hand, and His holy arm, have worked salvation for Him
(Psalm 98:1).

You have also given me the shield of your salvation. Your right hand sustains me. Your gentleness has made me great
(Psalm 18:35).

Now I know that Yahweh saves His anointed. He will answer him from His holy Heaven with the saving strength of His right hand
(Psalm 20:6).

The right hand of righteousness
As is your name, God, so is Your praise to the ends of the earth. Your right hand is full of righteousness
(Psalm 48:10).

The right hand of destiny
I heard the Man clothed in linen, who was above the waters of the river, when He held up His right hand and His left hand to Heaven, and swore by Him Who lives forever that it shall be for a time, times, and a half; and when they have made an end of breaking in pieces the power of the holy people, all these things shall be finished
(Daniel 12:7).

The right hand of blessing
For they did not get the land in possession by their own sword, neither did their own arm save them but (it was by) Your right hand, and Your arm, and the light of Your face, because You were favorable to them
(Psalm 44:3).

The right hand of protection
In Your majesty ride on victoriously on behalf of truth, humility, and righteousness. Let Your right hand display awesome deeds
(Psalm 45:4).

The right hand of encouragement
My soul stays close to you. Your right hand holds me up (Psalm 63:8).

The right hand of deliverance
Though I walk in the middle of trouble, You will revive me. You will stretch forth Your hand against the anger of my enemies. Your right hand will save me
(Psalm 138:7).

For I, Yahweh your God, will hold your right hand, saying to you- do not be afraid- I will help you
(Isaiah 41:13).

Do not be afraid- for I AM with you; do not be dismayed, for I AM your God; I will strengthen you; yes, I will help you; yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of My righteousness
(Isaiah 41:10).

The right hand of judgement
Your hand will find out all of your enemies. Your right hand will find out those who hate you
(Psalm 21:8).

The Mouth of Jesus Christ

The mouth of the Lord Jesus Christ is revealed in several scrolls of Revelation:

It is revealed in Revelation Scroll Number One-
He had in His right hand seven stars, out of His mouth went a sharp two-edged sword
(Revelation 1:16).

It is revealed in Revelation Scroll Number Four-
Repent, or else I will come to you quickly and will fight against them with the sword of My mouth
(Revelation 2:16).

It is revealed in Revelation Scroll Number Eight-
So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth
(Revelation 3:16).

and it is revealed in Revelation Scroll Number Eleven-
Now out of His mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it He should strike the nations. And He Himself will rule them with a rod of iron. He Himself treads the winepress of the fierceness and anger of Almighty God
(Revelation 19:15).

And the rest were killed with the sword which proceeded from the mouth of Him who sat on the horse. And all the birds were filled with their flesh
(Revelation 19:21).

The Word of God is a Symbolic Sword

This is revealed several times in other scrolls of the Holy Bible-
...He made my words of judgment as sharp as a sword...(Isaiah 49:2).

And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit that is the word of God
(Ephesians 6:17).

...for the word of God is full of living power. It is sharper than the sharpest sword, cutting deep into our innermost thoughts and desires. It exposes us for what we really are. Nothing in all creation can hide from Him. Everything is naked and exposed before His eyes. This is the God to whom we must explain all that we have done
(Hebrews 4:12-13).

Christ's Symbolic Two-edged Sword of His Mouth

Christ's two-edged sword is mentioned in the bible book of Revelation:

It is revealed in Revelation Scroll Number One-
He had seven stars in His right hand. Out of His mouth proceeded a sharp two-edged sword. His face was like the sun shining at its brightest
(Revelation 1:16).

And it is revealed in Revelation Scroll Number Four-
And to the angel of the church in Pergamos write these things- says He who has the sharp two-edged sword...
(Revelation 2:12).

Repent, or else I will come to you quickly and will fight against them with the sword of My mouth
(Revelation 2:16).

And the sword of His mouth is revealed in Revelation Scroll Number Eleven-
Now out of His mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it He should strike the nations. And He Himself will rule them with a rod of iron. He Himself treads the winepress of the fierceness and anger of Almighty God
(Revelation 19:15).

And the rest were killed with the sword that proceeded from the mouth of Him who sat on the horse. And all the birds were filled with their flesh
(Revelation 19:21).

The Face of the Lord

The face of the Lord is revealed in several scrolls of Revelation:

It is revealed in Revelation Scroll Number One- The Alpha (Beginning) of Revelation
He had seven stars in His right hand. Out of His mouth proceeded a sharp two-edged sword. His face was like the sun shining at its brightest
(Revelation 1:16).

It is revealed in Revelation Scroll Number Nine-
...and they say to the mountains and the rocks- fall on us, and hide us from the face of Him Who sits on the throne- and from the anger of the Lamb
(Revelation 6:16).

It is revealed in Revelation Scroll Number Eleven-
I saw a great white throne, and Him Who sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away. There was found no place for them
(Revelation 20:11).

It is revealed in Revelation Scroll Number Twelve- The Omega (Ending) of Revelation
They will see His face, and His name will be on their foreheads
(Revelation 22:4).

Revelation 1:17
When I saw Him, I fell at His feet like a dead man. He laid His right hand on me, saying-
Do not be afraid. I AM the First and the Last.

I Fell at His Feet Like a Dead Man

The Apostle John worshipped Christ, and Christ, as God, received his worship- this is revealed in Revelation Scroll Number One-
When I saw Him, I fell at His feet like a dead man (Revelation 1:17).

However, the Apostle John was rebuked (as is revealed in Revelation Scroll Number Eleven) in a mistaken effort to worship one of God's angels-
And I fell at his feet to worship him. But he said to me- see that you do not do that! I am your fellow servant, and of your brethren who have the testimony of Jesus. Worship God
(Revelation 19:10).

and he was rebuked again (as is revealed in Revelation Scroll Number Twelve) in a mistaken effort to worship one of God's angels-
Now I, John, saw and heard these things. And when I heard and saw, I fell down to worship before the feet of the angel who showed me these things. Then he said to me- see that you do not do that. For I am your fellow servant, and of your brethren the prophets, and of those who keep the words of this book. Worship God.
(Revelation 22:8-9).

I AM the First and the Last

Christ first revealed this revelation in Scroll Number One- chapter one verse eight. It appears the first and the last is the same as the alpha and omega. And in Revelation 1:18 the revelation of the fact that I AM alive forevermore also adds to the fact that Christ is eternal.

It appears this revelation was also previously revealed in Revelation Scroll Number One
(Revelation 1:8). Please journey there for Gods's message or

The greatest message ever heard came from an empty tomb

Revelation 1:18
I AM the Living one. I was dead, but behold, I AM alive forevermore. I have the keys of death and of Hades.

I was dead but...I AM alive forevermore

It appears this scripture refers to the resurrection of Christ that is revealed in the Revelation Scrolls:

It is revealed in Revelation Scroll Number One-
...and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead (Revelation 1:5).

I AM the Living one. I was dead, but behold, I AM alive forevermore (Revelation 1:18).

and it is revealed in Revelation Scroll Number Three-
...these things says the First and the Last, Who was dead, and came to life (Revelation 2:8).

The resurrection of Christ is revealed in other scrolls of scripture, as well. Let us take a look at a few of them:

...I AM the resurrection, and the life...(John 11:25).

Jesus said to him- I AM...the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me (John 14:6).

For I know that my Redeemer lives, and He shall stand at last on the earth (Job 19:25).

This Jesus God has raised up- of which we are all witnesses (Acts 2:32).

But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you
(Romans 8:11).

And God both raised up the Lord and will also raise us up by His power (1 Corinthians 6:14)... Now if Christ is preached that He has been raised from the dead, how do some among you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ is not risen. And if Christ is not risen, then our preaching is empty and your faith is also empty
(1 Corinthians 15:12-14).

...knowing that He who raised up the Lord Jesus will also raise us up with Jesus
(2 Corinthians 4:14).

...that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness that is from God by faith- that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection
(Philippians 3:9-10).

...Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus
(1 Thessalonians 4:14).

I Have the Keys of Death and of Hades
Christ reveals the fact that He has all the symbolic keys of power and authority in several scrolls of Revelation:

It is revealed here in Revelation Scroll Number One-
I Am He who lives, and was dead, and behold, I AM alive forevermore. Amen. And I have the keys of Hades and of Death
(Revelation 1:18).

It is revealed in Revelation Scroll Number Seven-
And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write- these things says He who is holy, He who is true, He who has the (political) key of David, He who opens and no one shuts and shuts and no one opens
(Revelation 3:7).

It is revealed in Revelation Scroll Number Nine-
Then the fifth angel sounded- and I saw a (symbolic) star fallen from Heaven to the earth (Lucifer). To him was (temporarily) given (by Christ) the key to the bottomless pit
(Revelation 9:1).

and it is revealed in Revelation Scroll Number Eleven-
Then I saw an angel coming down from Heaven, having the key (from Christ) to the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand
(Revelation 20:1).

Is there other scroll in the bible that appears to reveal this? Yes. Here it is:

And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of Heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in Heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in Heaven
(Matthew 16:19).
