...but I have a few things against you, because you have there some who believe the doctrine
of Balaam, who taught Balak to throw a stumbling block before the children of Israel, to
eat things sacrificed to idols, and to commit sexual immorality
(Revelation 2:14).
Thus you also have those who hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitans- that which I hate
(Revelation 2:15).
Those who stand for nothing
It appears this revelation of a rebuke from Jesus is against two of His churches-
Apostasy may happen when spiritual things have been rejected to make room for things artificial. The sacred has been secularized, the holy vulgarized, and worship converted into a form of entertainment
What a bible commentary revealed about Balaam:
Revelation 2:15

God the Holy Spirit reveals doctrine in the following verses so this is a good place for
us to look at His doctrine first.
A government official who studies counterfeit currency does not study the phoney stuff but
the genuine stuff. Once the genuine is known, the phoney is easier to recognize.
It is the same way with doctine. Here I want to introduce you to the genuine doctrine so that
the false and phoney doctine will be easier to recognize. God appears to use two major pillars
of kosher doctine in the bible book of Revelation. Let us take a brief look at these two
doctrinal pillars of the Christian faith:
One pillar is the fact that Jesus Christ is God-
I and My Father are one (John 10:30).
And the glory that You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one
(John 17:22).
(1 John 2:22-23).
The other pillar is the fact that Jesus Christ is the only way to Heaven-
Jesus said to him- I AM the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father
except through Me
(John 14:6).
Conversely, Christ issues a warning to His Overcomers to beware of false teaching-
Take heed- beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and the yeast of Herod.
They reasoned with one another, saying- It is because we have no bread.
Jesus, perceiving it, said to them-
Why do you reason that it is because you have no bread? Do not you perceive yet, neither
understand? Is your heart still hardened? Having eyes, do not you see? Having ears, do not
you hear? Do not you remember? When I broke the five loaves among the five thousand, how
many baskets full of broken pieces did you take up?" They told him- Twelve. When the seven
loaves fed the four thousand, how many baskets full of broken pieces did you take up? They told
him- Seven. He asked them- do not you understand, yet?
(Mark 8:13-21).
Then they understood that He did not tell them to beware of the yeast of bread, but of the
false teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees
(Matthew 16:12).
(John 4:23-24).
Revelation 2:14
...but I have a few things against you, because you have there some who believe the doctrine
of Balaam, who taught Balak to throw a stumbling block before the children of Israel, to
eat things sacrificed to idols, and to commit sexual immorality.
are apt to fall for anything
It is revealed here in Revelation Scroll Number Four-
...I have a few things against you, because you have there some who believe the doctrine
of Balaam, who taught Balak to throw a stumbling block before the children of Israel, to
eat things sacrificed to idols, and to commit sexual immorality
(Revelation 2:14).
...I have a few things against you, because you allow that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a
prophetess, to teach and seduce My servants to commit sexual immorality and eat things
sacrificed to idols
(Revelation 2:20).
It appears this scripture about Balaam stands alone here in Revelation Scroll Number Four
and is not repeated in multiple scrolls.
Are there other scrolls in the bible that appear to reveal this? Yes. Here are a few-
The devilish counsel-
Now Israel remained in Acacia Grove, and the people began to commit harlotry with the women of
Moab. They invited the people to the sacrifices of their gods, and the people ate and bowed
down to their gods. So Israel was joined to Baal of Peor, and the anger of the Lord was aroused
against Israel
(Numbers 25:1-3).
Look, these women caused the children of Israel, through the counsel of Balaam, to trespass
against the Lord in the incident of Peor, and there was a plague among the congregation of the Lord
(Numbers 31:16).
...because they hired against you Balaam the son of Beor from Pethor of Mesopotamia, to curse
you. Nevertheless the Lord your God would not listen to Balaam, but the Lord your God
turned the curse into a blessing for you, because the Lord your God loves you
(Deuteronomy 23:4-5).
(Joshua 24:9-10).
On that day they read from the Book of Moses in the hearing of the people, and in it
was found written that no Ammonite or Moabite should ever come into the assembly of God,
because they had not met the children of Israel with bread and water, but hired Balaam
against them to curse them. However, our God turned the curse into a blessing
(Nehemiah 13:1-2).
O My people, remember now what Balak king of Moab counseled, and what Balaam the son of Beor
answered him, from Acacia Grove to Gilgal, that you may know the righteousness of the Lord
(Micah 6:5).
(2 Peter 2:15).
Woe to them! For they have gone in the way of Cain, have run greedily in the error of Balaam
for profit, and perished in the rebellion of Korah
(Jude 1:11).
But I have a few things against you, because you have there those who hold the
doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balak to put a stumbling block before the children
of Israel, to eat things sacrificed to idols, and to commit sexual immorality
(Revelation 2:14).
They killed the kings of Midian with the rest of those who were killed-Evi, Rekem,
Zur, Hur, and Reba, the five kings of Midian. Balaam the son of Beor they also killed with
the sword
(Numbers 31:8).
The children of Israel also killed with the sword Balaam the son of Beor, the
soothsayer, among those who were killed by them
(Joshua 13:22).
John Gill in his Exposition of the Entire Bible, 1887, had this to say about Balaam-
"...that the Israelites did commit whoredom with the daughters of Moab, and eat things sacrificed to
idols, and bowed down to Baal Peor, is certain, (Numbers 25:1-3)- but that this was brought
about through the counsel of Balaam is not so plainly expressed, though it is hinted at in
(Numbers 31:15,16)- but the Jewish writers are very express about this matter. Jonathan ben
Uzziel, one of their Targumists on
(Numbers 24:14), has these words of Balaam-
Come, and I will counsel thee, (speaking to Balak,) go and set up inns, and place in them
whorish women, to sell food and drink at a low price- and this people will come and eat and
drink, and be drunken, and will lie with them, and deny their God- and they will be quickly
delivered into thine hands, and many of them shall fall.
This now was the stumbling block he taught Balak to lay before them. And elsewhere it is
said...that Balaam, the wicked, gave counsel to Balak, the son of Zippor, to cause the
Israelites to fall by the sword- he said to him, the God of this people hates whoredom, cause
thy daughters to commit whoredom with them, and ye shall rule over them.
And then they go on to relate how they built shops, and placed an old woman without, and a
young woman within- and when the Israelites came to buy, how well they used them, and what
familiarity they admitted them to- how they made them drink of Ammonitish wine, that inclined
to lust and when that signified their desire, oblige them to worship Baal Peor, and renounce
the law of Moses. Both Philo and Josephus speak of this counsel of Balaam, much to the same
purpose. The Samaritan Chronicle says that this counsel pleased the king, and he sent into
the camp of Israel, on a sabbath day, twenty four thousand young women, by whom the Israelites
were so seduced, that they did everything they desired them, which was just the number of
those that were slain, (Numbers 25:9)."
A revelation against idol worship is revealed in the scrolls of Revelation-
It is revealed in Original Scroll Number Four-
But I have a few things against you, because you have there some who hold the
teaching of Balaam, who taught Balak to throw a stumbling block before the children of
Israel, to eat things sacrificed to idols, and to commit sexual immorality
(Revelation 2:14).
It is revealed in Original Scroll Number Five-
But I have this against you, that you tolerate your woman, Jezebel, who calls
herself a prophetess. She teaches and seduces My servants to commit sexual immorality,
and to eat things sacrificed to idols
(Revelation 2:20).
It is revealed in Original Scroll Number Nine-
The rest of mankind, who were not killed with these plagues, did not repent of the
works of their hands, that they would not worship demons, and the idols of gold, and of
silver, and of brass, and of stone, and of wood- that can neither see, nor hear, nor walk
(Revelation 9:20).
It is revealed in Original Scroll Number Twelve-
But for the cowardly, unbelieving, sinners, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers,
idolaters, and all liars- their part is in the lake that burns with fire and
sulfur- that is the second death
(Revelation 21:8).
(Exodus 20:2-6).
I have stretched out My hands all day long to a rebellious people, who walk in a way that is not
good, according to their own thoughts- a people who provoke Me to anger continually to My
face- who sacrifice (to idols) in gardens, and burn incense on altars of brick
(Isaiah 65:2-3).
(Romans 1:22-25).
Paul the Apostle deals with this subject in his letter scrolls-
Now let us talk about food that has been sacrificed to idols. You think that everyone should
agree with your perfect knowledge. While knowledge may make us feel important, it is love
that really builds up the church
(1 Corinthians 8:1).
So now, what about it? Should we eat meat that has been sacrificed to idols?
(1 Corinthians 8:4).
You see, this is what can happen: Weak Christians who think it is wrong to eat this food
will see you eating in the temple of an idol. You know there's nothing wrong with it, but
they will be encouraged to violate their conscience by eating food that has been dedicated
to the idol
(1 Corinthians 8:10).
What am I trying to say? Am I saying that the idols to whom the pagans bring sacrifices
are real gods and that these sacrifices are of some value? No, not at all. What I am
saying is that these sacrifices are offered to demons, not to God. And I do not want any of
you to be partners with demons. You cannot drink from the cup of the Lord and from the
cup of demons, too. You cannot eat at the Lord's Table and at the table of demons, too
(1 Corinthians 10:19-21).
But suppose someone warns you that this meat has been offered to an idol. Do not eat it,
out of consideration for the conscience of the one who told you. It might not be a matter
of conscience for you, but it is for the other person. Now, why should my freedom be limited by
what someone else thinks? If I can thank God for the food and enjoy it, why should I be
condemned for eating it? Whatever you eat or drink or whatever you do, you must do all for the
glory of God
(1 Corinthians 10:28-31).
What is sexual immorality? Simply put, it is sin. It is wickedness, unchastity, or an immoral
act or practice. It includes, but
is not limited to, sexual intercourse between two persons not married to each other,
sexual intercourse between members of the same sex, prostitution, beastiality (a human having sex with an
animal), rape, incest, child molesting, and/or child sexual exploitation. None of this should
be in the life of any one of God's Overcomers.
God reveals sexual immorality in several scrolls of Revelation:
It is revealed in Revelation Scroll Number Four-
...put a stumbling block before the children of Israel- to commit sexual immorality
(Revelation 2:14).
...to teach and seduce My servants to commit sexual immorality. And I gave her time to repent of
her sexual immorality but she did not repent
(Revelation 2:20-21).
And they did not repent of their...sexual immorality... (Revelation 9:21).
(Acts 21:25).
And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to
a debased mind, to do those things that are not fitting (Romans 1:28)...being filled with all
unrighteousness, sexual immorality...
(Romans 1:29).
...now the body is not for sexual immorality but for the Lord, and the Lord for
the body (1 Corinthians 6:13)...flee sexual immorality- every sin that a man does is
outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body
(1 Corinthians 6:18).
Nevertheless, because of sexual immorality, let each man have his own wife, and let
each woman have her own husband
(1 Corinthians 7:2).
Nor let us commit sexual immorality, as some of them did, and in one day twenty-three
thousand fell
(1 Corinthians 10:8).
Finally then, brethren, we urge and exhort in the Lord Jesus that you should abound more and
more, just as you received from us how you ought to walk and to please God- for you know what
commandments we gave you through the Lord Jesus. For this is the will of God, your
sanctification- that you should abstain from sexual immorality that each of you should
know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor
(1 Thessalonians 4:1-4).
...Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities around them in a similar manner to these, having given
themselves over to sexual immorality and gone after strange flesh, are set forth
as an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire. Likewise also these dreamers defile the
flesh, reject authority, and speak evil of dignitaries
(Jude 1:7-8).
Thus you also have those who hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitans- that which I hate.
What was the doctrine of the Nicolaitans? Simply put, at that time, it was a modernized form of
Baal worship in the church. Baal means lord or master. Baal was an idol to Satan, so in the
church there can only be one lord or master and that is the Lord Jesus Christ. That is one
reason that Jesus hated it.
God appears to reveal the Nicolaitans in two scrolls of Revelation:
They appear in Revelation Scroll Number Two-
But this you have, that you hate the deeds of the Nicolaitans- that I also hate
(Revelation 2:6).
...you have there those who hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balak to put a stumbling
block before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed to idols, and to commit sexual
immorality
(Revelation 2:14).
