A devotional commentary is different from an exegetical commentary. In a devotional commentary like this one I can give the application of a verse rather than just the interpretation of a verse.

An Introduction

Who wrote this book?
Jude wrote this bible book.

What are some things that we know about Jude?
Jesus Christ had 2 half brothers who were leaders in the early church that He started. One of his half brothers was James (the Just), the General Superintendent of the church council at Jerusalem. He also wrote the bible book named James
(James 1:1; Matthew 13:55; Galatians 2:9). Jude was another one of the half brothers of Jesus Christ. He was called (in the bible) by his Hebrew name, Judas
(Matthew 13:55). Jude is his name in the English language. According to Fox's Book of Martyrs, Jude, the brother of James, was commonly called Thaddeus. He was crucified at Edessa in the year 72 A.D. A story from church history has been passed down to us that relates to Jude's grandchildren. The Roman Emperor, Domitian, raised a fresh persecution against the Christians in 95 A.D. By that time the Gospel had made its way among the great people of the earth, as well as among the poor, who were the first to listen to it. It appears that this emperor was told that some persons of the family of David were living in the Holy Land, and that he sent for them, because he was afraid lest the Jews should set them up as princes, and should rebel against his Roman government. They were two grandchildren of the Apostle Jude and therefore came from the family tree of the house of David and the old kings of Judah. But these two were ordinary ranchers, who lived quietly and contentedly on their estate, and were not likely to lead a rebellion and cause problems for Rome. After these two individuals were brought before the emperor, they showed him their hands, that were rough and calloused from working in the fields; and in answer to his questions about the kingdom of Christ, they said that it was not of this world, but spiritual and heavenly, and that it would appear at the end of the world, when the Saviour would come again to judge both the quick and the dead. So the emperor saw that there was nothing to fear from them, and he let them return to Israel.

When and where was this book written?
It is believed that this book was written somewhere in Asia Minor. Why? Because many Christian believers fled Jerusalem to avoid the severe persecution against the church believers there. Many went to Asia Minor including the Apostle John and Mary, the mother of Jesus. I doubt if Mary's son, Jude, would live too far away from her. This book was written about 65-67 A.D.

Why was this book written?
This Bible book has a similar message to the one in
2 Peter chapter 2 encouraging the faithful not to believe any false teachers nor incorporate any of their false doctrines into the churches. The spreading of false teaching in the church is one stronghold of Satan. If Satan can bring down the pastors of churches (with false beliefs), then he can bring down their congregations. It really meant a lot to God for Him to give two separate messages of warning to true Christian believers. One must contend for the true faith and false teaching must be rejected. God's judgment will come on the false teachers as it did on those mentioned as bad examples in the Old Testament days.

What was the historical setting in those days when this book was written?
Rome ruled the known world and there was Pax Romana (Roman peace) throughout the empire during the first and second centuries A.D. But this peace was temporarily interrupted by the Jewish war when the Romans in 70 A.D. defeated the Israelite army. They also destroyed the temple, sacked Jerusalem, and scattered the Israelites throughout the Roman empire. At that time Israel ceased to exist as a nation for approximately 1,900 years. The Lord had prophesied this war:

And when He (Jesus) was come near, He beheld the city, and wept over it, saying: "If thou hadst known, even thou, at least in this thy day, the things which belong unto thy peace! but now they are hid from thine eyes. For the days shall come upon thee, that thine enemies shall cast a trench about thee, and compass thee round, and keep thee in on every side, and shall lay thee even with the ground, and thy children within thee; and they shall not leave in thee one stone upon another; because thou knewest not the time of thy visitation"
(Luke 19:41-44).
And God, through the Apostle John, mentioned, in symbolic language, that Satan was to blame for it: "...and she (Israel) brought forth a man child (Jesus Christ), who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron: and her child was caught up unto God, and to His throne (Christ's resurrection)"
(Revelation 12:5). "And when the dragon (Satan) saw that he was cast unto the earth, he persecuted the woman (Israel) which brought forth the man child"
(Revelation 12:13).

The Bible book of Jude only has one chapter. Here is a good way to divide it:
Greetings to you from the author (verses 1 and 2),
There is always the danger of false teachers (verses 3-16),
Jude challenges us to remain faithful to God (verses 17-23),
We should have all praise for our Savior (verses 24-25).

The theme of this book:
The theme of this book is: Jesus Christ is our assurance in days of apostasy.

Section One
Greetings to you from the author

"Jude, the servant of Jesus Christ, and brother of James, to them that are sanctified by God the Father, and preserved in Jesus Christ, and called: mercy unto you, and peace and love, be multiplied.
(Jude verses 1 - 2).

Jude's love letter to you (Jude's love letter to early Christians):
God had Jude write this doctrinal love letter to true Christians because of His great love that He has for each one. Jude was alarmed and worried that many of the true Christians of his day were beginning to believe and teach false doctrine. He wrote his letter to them to warn them of the great spiritual danger associated with swallowing the spiritual poison of false doctrine. And this danger is still relevant today, so you and I have to be very careful not to believe any doctrines of the devil.

What are some of the doctrines of the devil?
One false doctrine is to deny Who Jesus really is. Who is He? He is God. To help prove that Christ is God, let us take a look at the Greek language that the bible was originally written in. Jude uses the name of our Lord in these first two verses. The name for "Jesus" in Greek is Iesous meaning Jehovah is salvation, the Son of God, the Savior of mankind, and God incarnate. It is the same name that God gave Himself through
the Angel of the Lord (a link): "And she shall bring forth a Son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus: for He shall save His people from their sins"
(Matthew 1:21).
The early Christians, due to their persecution, recognized each other by "the sign of the fish" because Jesus was a fisherman of souls. They referred to Jesus (in Greek) as Icthus or IXOYE. The Greek letters stood for Jesus Christ, Son of God, Savior. The early true Christians believed in the divinity of Jesus Christ. The second part of His name is actually a title name. It is "Christ" and this word in Greek is Christos meaning anointed. He is the Anointed One, the Jewish Messiah, the Son of God. So, Jude explained in the opening verses of his letter Who Jesus Christ really was and is. But, the false teachers were denying that the Lord Jesus Christ was real and that He was God.

Another doctrine of the devil is that Jesus Christ is NOT the only way to Heaven. However, the bible states that Jesus Christ IS the only Way to Heaven: "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me"
(John 14:6).
Satan hates these two bible doctrines. Why? Because Satan thinks of himself as a god- he wanted to take God's place in Heaven and God hurled him to earth like a bolt of lightning
(Luke 10:18). Oh, that must have really smarted his pride! Satan thinks there can be only one god and that is him. And Satan hates the fact that Jesus Christ defeated him at the cross of Calvary. Satan's pride will not allow any of his followers to believe or admit the truth of the church's doctrine of Christology. All false teachers and leaders of all false religions and cults past, present, and future must believe and teach one or both of these false beliefs.

Some past Caesars of Rome demanded that all true Christians worship them as a god. Many true Christians who refused to worship their Roman emperor as a god were martyred. Of course, one cannot be a true Christian follower and believe and teach one or both of these false teachings.

Will you please give us some more bible teaching on all of this? Yes. Without doubt some deceivers will come to you. Let me explain it this way:

    1) Deceivers will come as a representative of God to you:
Jesus warned that "wolves" would come to you dressed in "sheep's clothing", meaning that someone will some day come to you bringing Satanic doctrines or false Christian beliefs in the name of God. Sometimes the counterfeit looks so genuine that it is hard to tell the difference between the true and the false. The Lord knew this so He indicated that you will know them by their "fruits" (or by their life styles of crooked and evil ways and false teachings). God wants all of His children by adoption to be aware of Satan and his attempts to deceive.
    1 Timothy 4:1 & 2 tells us:
" the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron..." And Timothy is instructed in verse 11 of the same chapter, "These things command and teach."

Satan deceives by using counterfeits. He deceives people about the real Christ by offering them a false Christ. He deceives people about the real Word of God, the Holy Bible, by offering them a counterfeit "Bible". He deceives people about sin and salvation by offering them "other ways" of redemption.

Beware, some false teachers may come to you using the Bible to back up their "truths." They may have their own version of the bible that they have translated to make it fit in with their false doctrine. In a deceitful manner they "twist" bible passages and come up with wrong interpretations and make the Bible say what they want it to. All false teachers deny their religion is a cult. They use half-truths that are lies. Some false religious systems have rewritten verses in the Word of God thus changing its meaning, but the ones that did it say they are justified one way or another by doing it. Some have added an extra book, besides the Bible, they claim is also inspired by God. As convincing as they may sound, do not believe them- they are trying to deceive you.

God is not the author of confusion. God has only one book and that is His Holy Word, the Bible. It is not to be changed or added to or subtracted from. His Word stands forever. Be careful! When one of these false teachers comes in contact with you, do not accept his words, his literature, or have anything to do with him. The Lord said not to invite them into your house, nor to bid them God speed
(2 John 1:10-11). Warn other born again Christian believers of the danger. The nature of a wolf is to devour. These people must be resisted.

Remember Satan is also the spirit of antichrist. He will lie about the fact that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh to this earth- in other words, he will not confess that Jesus Christ is God. I will explain this a little more. But, beware, little children "because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walks around, seeking whom he may devour"
    (1 Peter 5:8).

    2) How are you to know when a false teacher comes to you?
Here is a test you can use on any religious people who come to you- with their teachings seeking you as a member of their group. Many false teachers will be very sincere. They actually believe what they are telling you is true. They may even have tears in their eyes. But sincerity is no test for truth. They may be sincerely wrong if what they are trying to teach you contradicts the truths of the Bible. Do not believe them. The Bible says to "test the spirits"- this is found written in the Bible in
    1 John 2:22 and 1 John 4: 1-6.

God inspired the writing of the Bible and He knew it was important enough to mention it twice. Give the people in question a test. The results of this test (which consist of two questions) will tell you if the people are sent by God or by Satan.

The first test question to ask the suspected false teacher is this:
Has Jesus Christ come in the flesh? Or another way of putting it is this way: Is Jesus Christ God? or Is Jesus Christ the only divine Son of God?

The second test question to ask the suspected false teacher is this:
Is Jesus Christ the only way by which a person can receive salvation by faith alone and make it to Heaven?

Analyze carefully the smooth replies to these questions and when you learn the answer is NO to either one or both of the questions, you will know that person is a false teacher sent from Satan to deceive you.

Here is a brief analysis of the above test questions. The Bible abounds with proof that Jesus Christ is God. Here are a few scriptures:
Exodus 3:14; John 13:20, 20:28; Matthew 1:23, 14:27. At the trial of Jesus He was asked if He was the divine Christ. He could have denied He was divine and saved His life. But He admitted He was God and went to the cross to save you and me from the penalty of our sins. The Bible narrative goes this way in
    Mark 14: 61 & 62:
"...the high priest asked him, and said unto Him, art Thou the Christ, the Son of the Blessed? And Jesus said, I AM."

Satan is known as the usurper because he claims Christ's place. Satan is the god of the universe and consequently, will never admit that Jesus Christ is God. False teachings springing through people from Satan will always acknowledge this.

Satan wants worship and he wants it his way, but Jesus is the only way to God and the only way to salvation. Satan had his head bruised (the head of a snake) by Christ on the cross and through the resurrection one can believe that Jesus Christ is still alive.

However, Satan in his attempt to build himself up must put Christ down and discredit Him. If you are Christ's follower, Satan will try to discredit you also. Satan denies that Christ is the only way to Heaven. So Satan gives the counterfeit way of salvation based upon man's sin-tainted and fleshly and self righteous works. This counterfeit will not forgive you of your sins and it will not take you to Heaven.

Satan hates Christ's blood. It is Christ's blood on the cross that defeated him because without the shedding of blood there is no remission of sin. Satan's counterfeit way of salvation is always without the shed blood of Jesus Christ, the divine Son of God.

    Satan subtracts and divides
    God multiplies and multiplies

Some false teachers claim that Jesus is only one way among other ways to get to Heaven. They offer a false way to God and a false substitute for Christ. Their Jesus is not our Jesus. Here are a few scripture references that prove that Jesus Christ is the only way by which a person can make it to Heaven:
    John 14:6, 7:9, 10:14; Ephesians 4:5.

If you are already in one of the false religious groups that teach contrary to the above Bible truths then God is dealing with you to get out of it and showing you that you have been deceived. I suggest you get out of it fast and break off all fellowship with those who are in it. Your eternal soul is in danger of hellfire:
"But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed"
    (Galatians 1:8).

False religions and cults demand a great deal from their slave followers. The slaves obtain their "salvation" by working free for it (called works) because Satan is a taker, and fear is always involved in these groups because fear is Satan's tool. Love is the opposite of fear. The Bible says that true salvation is a free gift from God...
"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast"
    (Ephesians 2: 8 & 9).

God is a giver and God's way is the way of faith, not fear
    (Romans 1:17).

Satan's angels are disguised as angels of light:
"And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works"
    (2 Corinthians 11: 14 & 15).

    3) The fate of the false teachers:
Here is what our Lord had to say:
"A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them." "Not every one that saith unto Me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of My Father which is in heaven. ...I will profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from Me, ye that work iniquity"
(Matthew 7: 15-23). "If a man abide not in Me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned"
    (John 15:6).

    4) Let each of us do our part:
Let mature Christians always strengthen young converts in the faith so the "wolves" do not get them. Always help the converts, love them, disciple them, teach them, and encourage them to be soul winners. Each of us should read our Bible every day, go to church, and seek Christian fellowship so we can stay strong and resist Satan and his deceiving followers.

A picture is worth a thousand words the Chinese proverb says. This is what I saw with my own eyes. It brings to reality of the destruction of the cults. There was an old Nazarene church on Church Lane in Cloverdale, Calif. My parents lived just up the hill from it. The church owners put the building up for sale and sold it to the Jehovah's Witnesses. I was watching them move into the building. One of them took a ladder and climbed on top of the roof with a hand saw. I watched him as he went over to the old wooden cross on the roof. Then he sawed it off and threw it on the ground. I rest my case...

Some of the cults, such as the Mormons, teach that one way you can get to Heaven is by being a member of their organization. There is only one way to Heaven and that is not it. If you are in a cult then I advise you to leave it immediately...
"This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts, ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith. But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be manifest unto all men, as theirs also was"
    (2 Timothy 3:1-9).

    Section Two
There is always the danger of false teachers

"Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints. For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ"
    (Jude verses 3-4).

There is a a danger of false teachers today (also in the days of old):
This section of scripture in Jude is similar to a section of scripture in
2 Peter 2:1-19. When God mentions something once in His word, we are to take notice. When God mentions something twice in His word, we are to take warning. What was Satan trying to do to true Chrisians when this bible book of Jude was written? Satan was trying to get true Christians to believe false doctrine. Why? He wanted to corrupt the church with an attack from inside of the church. In my opinion he actually had a two fold attack plan. He would outwardly persecute true believers by using the Roman government to slaughter them physically, and, at the same time, he would send his evil servants to infiltrate the ranks of true believers in the church to feed them the poison of false doctrine. This would kill them spiritually.

Does Jude mention what kind of doctrine these false teachers were trying to spread? Yes, in verse 4, Jude mentions that "they deny God, and our Lord, Jesus Christ."

"...that ye should earnestly contend for the faith..."
What does it mean to "earnestly contend for the faith"?
The word "contend" means to make a stand against for competitive advantage. In this case, true Christians are to believe, to teach, to argue, to maintain, and to assert the truth about Jesus Christ. About Christ? Why not about Christianity? Because true Christianity is a relationship (with Christ) and not a religion. What about faith- faith in what? It is not faith in what but faith in Who. It is faith in Jesus. Jesus is faithful and His character can be relied on when we trust Him. So, to earnestly contend for the faith, we must believe and proclaim to others, with unfaltering faith, that Christ is God and that He is the only way to Heaven. We have to stand, with our spiritual feet planted firmly, against any false teaching and against any false teachers that we encounter
    (Ephesians 6:12-15).

"...for there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men..."
Ungodly people may sometimes infiltrate our fellowship:
I met a man one time who I invited to my ministry's bible study fellowship. He resisted my bible teaching time and again and refused to repent. He repeatedly abused his wife and step son. My wife called child protective services on him but they did nothing. He bragged that he was a Satanist and I saw him one time in church trying to cast a spell on the visiting minister. He took an active part in our foot washing service and got to know the folks who came to my bible teaching ministry. It wasn't long before he went to them without my knowledge and turned them against me. They quit coming to my bible teaching ministry so I had to fold it up. Later, this guy's wife divorced him and his step-son hated him. He had his Satan and his sin but he didn't have the Prince of Peace. He made a choice not to bow the knee to Christ and a choice to infiltrate and sink my bible study fellowship. He crept in unawares, refused to repent, did his damage, and kept on going. I think I know how Jude felt about this same thing that probably happened to him in his time period. If that has ever happened to you, then you know how it feels also...

I see a strong parallel between what the Lord wrote through Jude and what the Lord wrote through the Apostle John. The Lord was concerned then and now about the spiritual condition of the churches: "And unto the angel of the church in Smyrna write; these things saith the First and the Last, which was dead, and is alive; I know thy works, and tribulation, and poverty, (but thou art rich) and I know the blasphemy of them which say they are Jews, and are not, but are the synagogue of Satan. Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life. He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death"
    (Revelation 2:8-11).
It appeared that the church in Smyrna got infiltrated by some ungodly persons who caused some trouble there for that church.

"...turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness..."
    (Jude verse 4).

What does it mean to "turn the grace of our God into lasciviousness"?
It means that some folks believed in those days that God's forgiveness allowed them to live immoral lives. Should we act that way today? If you love the Lord, you don't have the inner nature of the spirit that wants to sin. Rather, you want to live a life of holiness that is pleasing to Him because you are a son or daughter of His by adoption and you want Him to be proud of you
    (Romans 8:15; Galatians 4:5; Ephesians 1:5).

"And unto the angel of the church in Thyatira write; these things saith the Son of God, who hath his eyes like unto a flame of fire, and his feet are like fine brass; I know thy works, and charity, and service, and faith, and thy patience, and thy works; and the last to be more than the first. Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce My servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols. And I gave her space to repent of her fornication; and she repented not. Behold, I will cast her into a bed, and them that commit adultery with her into great tribulation, except they repent of their deeds. And I will kill her children with death; and all the churches shall know that I am He which searcheth the reins and hearts: and I will give unto every one of you according to your works. But unto you I say, and unto the rest in Thyatira, as many as have not this doctrine, and which have not known the depths of Satan, as they speak; I will put upon you none other burden. But that which ye have already hold fast till I come. And he that overcometh, and keepeth My works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations: and He shall rule them with a rod of iron; as the vessels of a potter shall they be broken to shivers: even as I received of My Father. And I will give Him the morning star. He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches"
    (Revelation 2:18-29).
It appeared that the church in Thyatira had a woman in it, that they approved of, who "turned the grace of God into lasciviousness".

God and Satan each work through human instruments. Some humans have chosen to only serve God, others have chosen to only serve Satan. Jude lists some folks who were bad examples in Old Testament times. There were consequences to pay for those who abused the grace of God to follow their own lusts. All had unbelief. Some were apostates. Most were heretics in belief and evildoers in practice. Let's briefly take a look at them:

"I will therefore put you in remembrance, though ye once knew this, how that the Lord, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed them that believed not"
    (Jude verse 5).

When did that happen? After the Israelites, under Moses, left Egypt in the Exodus they refused to go into the Promised Land. God judged them. One by one they each died in the wilderness so that all of that adult generation that came out of Egypt, except for two persons, did not enter into the Promised Land. Here are the scriptures about it:
"And they returned from searching of the land after forty days. And they went and came to Moses, and to Aaron, and to all the congregation of the children of Israel, unto the wilderness of Paran, to Kadesh; and brought back word unto them, and unto all the congregation, and showed them the fruit of the land. And they told him, and said, we came unto the land whither thou sentest us, and surely it floweth with milk and honey; and this is the fruit of it. Nevertheless the people be strong that dwell in the land, and the cities are walled, and very great: and moreover we saw the children of Anak there. The Amalekites dwell in the land of the south: and the Hittites, and the Jebusites, and the Amorites, dwell in the mountains: and the Canaanites dwell by the sea, and by the coast of Jordan. And Caleb stilled the people before Moses, and said, let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it. But the men that went up with him said, we be not able to go up against the people; for they are stronger than we. And they brought up an evil report of the land which they had searched unto the children of Israel, saying, the land, through which we have gone to search it, is a land that eateth up the inhabitants thereof; and all the people that we saw in it are men of a great stature. And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, which come of the giants: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight"
    (Numbers 13:25-33).
"And all the congregation lifted up their voice, and cried; and the people wept that night. And all the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron: and the whole congregation said unto them, would God that we had died in the land of Egypt! or would God we had died in this wilderness! And wherefore hath the Lord brought us unto this land, to fall by the sword, that our wives and our children should be a prey? were it not better for us to return into Egypt? And they said one to another, let us make a captain, and let us return into Egypt. And the Lord said unto Moses:
"How long will this people provoke Me? and how long will it be ere they believe Me, for all the signs which I have showed among them?"
    (Numbers 14:1-4 & 11).
"For the Lord had said of them, "they shall surely die in the wilderness. And there was not left a man of them, save Caleb the son of Jephunneh, and Joshua the son of Nun"
    (Numbers 26:65).

This reveals the seriousness of unbelief- God will not allow sin to reign for long, and, all who are guilty of it, will feel the sting of divine judgment. In other words, they rebelled against God. Why? It was due to their unbelief. It is not good for one to shake their fist of rebellion in God's face. As a consequence, God allowed that generation to die in the wilderness. They did not want to go into the Promised Land so they were not allowed to go into the Promised Land!

The word for "Lord" in the original Greek in this verse in Jude is the word Kurios that means "Lord, Master, or Supreme One". In Christian theology, this title pertains to Jesus, Who is God, the Jewish Messiah. He is supreme in all authority.

Let's you and I believe the Lord with all of our heart. Let's keep studying His word, going to church, loving Him, and obeying Him. Let's get to Heaven because of our belief and not fall by the wayside due to our unbelief.

"And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; these things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God; I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of My mouth. Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked: I counsel thee to buy of Me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see. As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent. Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear My voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with Me. To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with Me in My throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with My Father in His throne. He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches"
    (Revelation 3:14-22).
It appeared that the church of the Laodiceans was spiritually lukewarm. God indicated that lukewarmness was equivalent to unbelief.

"And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, He hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day"
    (Jude verse 6).

Let us not be rebellious against God (some angels were rebellious):
What was that about? In the beginning of Lucifer's rebellion in Heaven he was able to turn one third of all of God's angels there against God. In other words, in the beginning, some of God's angels changed sides- they left God and went over to the enemy- to Satan. They were traitors and did not keep their place, but left their own dwelling place in Heaven to go a whoring after the devil. They were rebellious. They were so rebellious that they fought in Satan's army against God's army. They lost their war of rebellion. Then God created hell and showed it to all of them. Remember, hell was created for the devil and his angels
(Matthew 25:41). As prisoners of war, some of them were locked away in Hades (placed in chains in the bottomless pit in symbolism). Some of the fallen angels accompanied Lucifer to this earth and are helping him in his rebellion against God. God changed the physical appearance of some of these fallen angels into hiddeous appearances that mirror their hideous character. Some smell like manure.

King Saul of Israel got into trouble because he was rebellious against God: "And Samuel said, hath the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams. For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the Lord, He hath also rejected thee from being king"
    (1 Samuel 15:22-23).

How is any of that relevant? The rebellious angels serve as bad examples of rebellion to God's entire universe. Let's not you and I be rebellious like they were. Let's not change sides from God's side to the devil's side because of false truths and doctrine that we have swallowed (believed) from false teachers. Let's not be rebellious against God like King Saul was who lost his kingship and later his life...

"Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire. Likewise also these filthy dreamers defile the flesh, despise dominion, and speak evil of dignities"
    (Jude verses 7 & 8).

Let's you and I not live wicked lives
(however, the folks of Sodom and Gomorrha lived wickedly
Why does God, through Jude, mention the folks of the 5 Cities of the Plain of Siddim? According to the Apostle Peter, God made those folks and their cities permanent examples to future folks who might choose to live ungodly lives
(2 Peter 2:6). You can read about the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrha in
Genesis chapter 19. What happened to them? Those folks sinned against the Lord and were destroyed by fire from God. Why? Not only did they believe wrong but they lived wrong. As a consequence of their rebellion against God, they were destroyed. Let's you and I not be wicked like those folks were.

Jude equates the false teachers with the wicked folks of Sodom and Gomorrha. Why? Because "likewise, also these filthy dreamers defile the flesh, despise dominion, and speak evil of dignities". If false teachers today cause Christians to stumble from their faith with spiritually poisoned false doctrine, then they are doing Satan's will. They are acting wickedly.

  • A brief study about Sodom and Gomorrha (Genesis chapter 19)

"Yet Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, the Lord rebuke thee. But these speak evil of those things which they know not: but what they know naturally, as brute beasts, in those things they corrupt themselves"
    (Jude verses 9 & 10).

We have to resist the devil like Michael, the Archangel, did:
Jude revealed the contention of Michael, the Archangel, with Satan over the body of Moses. Michael, the Archangel, is mentioned several times in the Word of God:
    (Daniel 10:13,21; 12:1; Revelation 12:7).

As Michael resisted the devil by using the Word of God, so also are we to resist false teachers by using the Word of God. We should study and know the Word of God well enough to discuss apologetics with any false teacher. What is that? Apologetics is just a big word that refers to "a defense of the Christian faith". Satan may never cease sending false teachers to us to deceive us. And, the bible says: "Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour"
    (1 Peter 5:8).
When Satan comes around to torment us, we need to rebuke him in the name of Jesus. Satan desires worship and hates to be rebuked, however, Satan has been rebuked before:
"And he showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the Angel of the Lord, and Satan standing at His right hand to resist Him. And the Lord said unto Satan, "the Lord rebuke thee, O Satan; even the Lord that hath chosen Jerusalem rebuke thee: is not this a brand plucked out of the fire?"
    (Zechariah 3:1-2).

Jude stated that the false teachers "...speak evil of those things which they know not: but what they know naturally, as brute beasts, in those things they corrupt themselves". Why? Because false teachers speak against Christ, His salvation of the lost, His true church, and many of the true Christians who follow Christ. They have to put down the genuine in order to elevate the false. That is devilish.

We need to continually resist the devil. The Apostle James also had some good advice for us: "Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you"
    (James 4:7).

"Woe unto them! for they have gone in the way of Cain, and ran greedily after the error of Balaam for reward, and perished in the gainsaying of Core (Korah)"
    (Jude verse 11).

    The Way of Cain:
What is the way of Cain? Who was Cain? Cain was a son of Adam and Eve. Cain was an evildoer who murdered his brother. Let's go to Genesis and take a look at some scriptures:

"And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the Lord. And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the Lord had respect unto Abel and to his offering: but unto Cain and to his offering He had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell. And the Lord said unto Cain, "why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen? If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him"
    (Genesis 4:3-7).

Abel was obedient to God. He belonged to God. Cain was disobedient to God. He belonged to Satan. The attitude of their heart showed up in their sacrifice to God. Abel came God's way. However, Cain wanted to be righteous on his own terms, not on God's terms:
"Woe to them! For they have gone the way of Cain..."
    (Jude 1:11).
The way of Cain is the way of fleshly carnality- one who does not confess sin in their life or come to God on God's terms. And it can be the persecution of any of God's children in a variety of ways, and their involvement in the taking of innocent life, witchcraft, satanism, rebellion against God, and other forms of spiritual idolatry. Later, King Saul got into trouble with God by following the way of Cain
(1 Samuel 15:23) and King David's pride and self-will got him into trouble with God
(2 Samuel 24:10). And it can be any person who belongs to Satan who wants to hurt God or who tries to manipulate God by something evil they do.

Let us not be like Cain, Balaam, or Korah (these individuals were bad examples). Let us not come to God the way Cain did. Cain came his way- the way of self will. Many folks, for one reason or another, do not want to do it God's way. They want to work their way to Heaven or buy their way into Heaven. They want to come to God keeping their wickedness and sin. They want to come to God keeping their spiritual rebellion against Him or by some other way that God won't accept. But it is God's universe and God's rules. He is the Potter and we are the clay. Let's be like Abel and do things God's way. Let's come to God through Christ- through His shed blood in a loving relationship with Him.

"For this is the message that ye heard from the beginning, that we should love one another. Not as Cain, who was of that wicked one, and slew his brother. And wherefore slew he him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother's righteous. Marvel not, my brethren, if the world hate you"
    (1 John 3:11-13).

What was the error of Balaam?
Who was Balaam? According to Jewish General Joshua, Balaam was a soothsayer
(Joshua 13:22). What was that? The word for "soothsayer" in Hebrew is Qacam meaning "a false prophet". So, Balaam was one of the false prophets of that time period. The enemies of Israel hired Balaam to put a divine curse on the children of Israel, but God said no, because the Israelites belonged to Him and not the devil
(Deuteronomy 23:4-5; Joshua 24:10). Balaam betrayed God by selling information to the enemies of God about how to wickedly and morally corrupt the Hebrews
(Numbers 31:16). God allowed the Hebrews to execute Balaam for his wickedness
(Joshua 13:22). So, what was the error of Balaam? He betrayed God and took money for his wicked deed. Jude indicated that Balaam was greedy and wanted a monetary reward for his betrayal. Who does that remind you of in the New Testament? Yep. Judas Iscariot. Balaam was much like Judas Iscariot. He was willing to serve Satan and sell out the Lord if the price was right. And the devil gave each of them the right price. But neither one of them lived long enough afterwards to enjoy it.

"And to the angel of the church in Pergamos write; these things saith he which hath the sharp sword with two edges; I know thy works and where thou dwellest, even where Satan's seat is: and thou holdest fast My name, and hast not denied My faith, even in those days wherein Antipas was My faithful martyr, who was slain among you, where Satan dwelleth. But I have a few things against thee, because thou hast there them that hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balac to cast a stumblingblock before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed unto idols, and to commit fornication. So hast thou also them that hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitanes, which thing I hate. Repent; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will fight against them with the sword of My mouth. He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; to him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it"
    (Revelation 2:12-17).
It appeared that the doctrine or the error of Balaam reared it's ugly head at the church in Pergamos and God had to deal with them about it. Let's you and I never be like Balaam and sell out our Lord for a bank full of coins.

What was the gainsaying of Core (Korah)?
Who was Korah? Korah was a Levite who wanted to push Moses out of the way and take over the leadership of the Hebrews
(Numbers 16:1-3 & 10). What does gainsaying mean? The word "gainsaying" in Greek is antilogia meaning "opposition or rebellion". So, the question is: what was the rebellion of Korah about? Korah did not want to do things God's way- he wanted to do things his way. He committed the sin of pride, self will, and rebellion. Who does that remind you of? Yep. Satan. Satan did the same thing to God in Heaven in the beginning
(Ezekiel 28:13-19). Korah was a false teacher who gambled with his life and lost. God killed him and his followers
    (Numbers 16:23-35).

Let us never follow a false teacher and leader like Korah was. As the sheep of Jesus, let's follow our Jesus who leads us to well watered meadowland grass where we can get fat and sassy:-)
    (John 10:14-27).

"These are spots in your feasts of charity, when they feast with you, feeding themselves without fear: clouds they are without water, carried about of winds; trees whose fruit withereth, without fruit, twice dead, plucked up by the roots; raging waves of the sea, foaming out their own shame; wandering stars, to whom is reserved the blackness of darkness for ever"
    (Jude verses 12 and 13).

    Let's not be spiritually dead
(the false teachers were spiritually dead and dangerous
God, through Jude, used symbolic language in this passage of scripture to describe the false teachers from God's point of view. The use of symbolic language applies the same truth to generation after generation of folks on this earth, so Jude's message is for us today.

The word for "spots" in the original Greek language is spilas meaning "a rock or reef in the sea". So, this passage of scripture could read like this: "...these are rocky reefs in your feasts of love...". What does that mean? I was in the Navy and sailed on a warship. The captain of our ship had to be careful of submerged and dangerous objects just under the surface of the water. These objects were hard to see but presented a real threat. If our ship would have hit a sunken shoal, or reef, it might have caused a bad shipwreck with loss of life. A lighthouse is usually built on a dangerous section of coastline to help prevent this from happening. Likewise, a false prophet might cause an unwary and new Christian believer to suffer a fatal spiritual shipwreck when the believer hits the reef of unbelief from false teaching. In other words, a false teacher, by his or her false teaching, may damage others spiritually and wreck them as it were. Let's you and I be a spiritual lighthouse to weak Christians so they don't wind up a casualty as a shipwreck on the dangerous reef of false belief.

These false believers can be unstable trouble makers who visit you often (they feast with you), but they have no real spiritual substance because what they offer you is a worthless counterfeit belief, much like "clouds without water, trees without fruit, and waves of the sea that serve no good, earthly purpose". When they feast with you (indoctrinate you), they eat their own poisoned food (false belief) but they have no fear (of God's judgment) because they are already spiritually poisoned (dead). Actually, they are twice dead- spiritually dead (at the present time), and they will suffer the second death (at God's judgment) when God will sentence them to spend eternity in hell fire.

What does God think about these false teachers? From God's point of view they are like "wandering stars, to whom is reserved the blackness of darkness for ever". A star that travels (and is not fixed) is worthless as it gives off no light or warmth that does any good to anyone on this earth. "The blackness of darkness for ever", in my opinion, is a description of hell. Hell is the garbage dump of the universe. It is located away from God (Who is the Light) in total darkness. It is "down wind" from Heaven, so to speak, and constantly on fire. Jesus said: "If a man abide not in Me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned"
    (John 15:6).
The church in Sardis was a spiritually dead church. I wonder if the false teachers got a foothold there and strangled that church to death with their false doctrine. "And unto the angel of the church in Sardis write; these things saith He that hath the seven Spirits of God, and the seven stars; I know thy works, that thou hast a name that thou livest, and art dead. Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die: for I have not found thy works perfect before God. Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast, and repent. If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee. Thou hast a few names even in Sardis which have not defiled their garments; and they shall walk with Me in white: for they are worthy. He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before My Father, and before His angels. He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches"
    (Revelation 3:1-6).
Let's you and I be alive in the Spirit and never get to be spiritually dead. Let's be alive and bring forth much spiritual fruit for our Master. We don't want to be like the fig tree with no fruit that Jesus found to be worthless
    (Matthew 21:19).

"And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints, to execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against Him. These are murmurers, complainers, walking after their own lusts; and their mouth speaketh great swelling words, having men's persons in admiration because of advantage"
    (Jude verses 14-16).

    The Lord is coming again:
God revealed to Jude the prophecy of Enoch. Many folks have gotten "the prophecy of Enoch" confused with the apocryphal book called Enoch. What is that? It is a book that is considered not to be inspired by God the Holy Spirit, therefore, it is not part of the Holy Bible. The confusion comes in because the book of Enoch also contains "a prophecy from Enoch", so some folks think that Jude copied from this book, therefore, Jude's quotation from Enoch is not to be taken as absolute truth. This has given some folks the poor excuse to claim that the bible is not the inspired Word of God because it contains alleged errors such as this. But that is stinkin' thinkin'.

Jude states that Enoch was the seventh (generation) from Adam. He was in the family lineage of Seth, from the godly branch of Adam and Eve's family tree (genealogy). I believe that Jude mentioned that fact to distinguish him from the son of Cain, from the ungodly branch, also named Enoch, the third from Adam
(Genesis 5:18-24). Why does Enoch's name order appear that way in God's Word: Adam, Sheth, Enosh?
(1 Chronicles 1:1). It simply means that Seth was Adamís son, and Enoch was Sethís son. Sometimes, the bible deals with selective genealogy names rather than with complete genealogy names. It was one method of abbreviation. It does not mean there are errors in God's Word. This is one good reason why any individual should not try to attach specific dates to future prophetic events. Some folks try to count the generations of individuals in the Old Testament, with each generation being 40 years, and come up with a futuristic time line they try to pass off to others as biblical. Some such individuals count the number of selective genealogies rather than complete ones. And, even if they count the complete ones, there is no guarantee that their time line matches God's time line.

  • More about Enoch in my commentary on Genesis

Are you ready for the Lord's coming? (Christ was prophesied to come twice):
The first coming of Christ was revealed to Adam
(Genesis 3:15) and His second coming was revealed to Enoch
(Jude verses 14-15). The Second Coming of Christ has two parts to it:
    1) The rapture of the church, and
    2) Christ's second advent. Let us take a brief look at these future events.

    1) The Rapture of the church: The bible states that Enoch "walked with God and he was not (he did not die) for God took him"
(Genesis 5:24). Enoch loved the Lord and the Lord took him to Heaven so that Enoch did not have to die. This is one nugget of proof for the rapture of the church that will happen in our near future. God will take His obedient children to Heaven the same way that He took Enoch to Heaven.
"For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with Him. For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. For the Lord Himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words"
    (1 Thessalonians 4:14-18).

So the question is: are you ready for the Lord's coming? If you are then stay ready with oil in your lamp for the blessed appearing
    (Matthew 25:1-13).

    2) Christ's second advent: The bible indicates that Christ will literally set up His earthly kingdom in Jerusalem and rule as King from there with an inflexible rod of iron
    (Isaiah 2:12-22; Isaiah chapter 4; Ezekiel 30:3; Psalm chapter 2;
    Revelation chapter 6-18, 19:11-21).

When the Lord rules over the world from Jerusalem, He will "execute judgment upon all (who need it), and convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against Him".

Enoch lived at the same time as Adam and Eve, even though they were 7 generations apart, due to the long life span that folks had in those days. I am sure Adam told Enoch many wonderful and good stories about God and His creation. And I am sure Adam also told about God's judgment for disobedience. Likewise, judgment for disobedience will fall on each of the false teachers for being evil and for doing evil.

    Section Three
Jude challenges us to remain faithful to God

"But, beloved, remember ye the words which were spoken before of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ; how that they told you there should be mockers in the last time, who should walk after their own ungodly lusts. These be they who separate themselves, sensual, having not the Spirit. But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost, keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. And of some have compassion, making a difference: and others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh"
    (Jude verses 17-23).

God calls us to remain faithful to Him in the "last time":
Many folks agree that we are living in the "last time" or the "last days" and that the soon return of the Lord is imminent. Therefore, the message of Jude is for us today. He encourages us to contend or defend the great doctrines of Christology during these perilous times. This is called apologetics- a defense of the Christian faith. There were some apostates or false teachers in the early church. There are some today. We are called to remain true to Christ in our lifestyle and also in sound bible doctrine.

There will be lustful, sensual mockers:
The Apostle Peter warned us about mockers in the last days
(2 Peter 3:1-7). In the balance scale between a holiness and unholiness life style, some folks choose holiness. This is good, spiritual, and means that when holiness is elevated then unholiness is put down and tread upon. However, some folks choose unholiness. This is evil, spiritual deadness, and means that when an unholy lifestyle is elevated, the good and spiritual is put down and tread upon. The ones that choose to be that way are lustful, sensual mockers of Christ. When these types of individuals get into power in the government of your country, what do you think they are going to do to true holiness Christians? They will persecute true believers and promote the unholy and phoney "believers". Good may become evil and evil may become good. Paul the Apostle also warned us about these kinds of folks in
    Romans 1:18-32.

Building up yourselves on your most holy faith:
What does that mean? This scripture could be worded this way: "building yourself upon your most holy faith". I like to describe it this way: our faith is like a foundation stone. And on this foundation stone of solid truth, like a rock, you and I will build (with God's help) our temple (ourself or who we really are). With Christ inside of us (inside our temple), you and I will know who we are in Him and will declare to the world who Christ really is.

"And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write; these things saith he that is holy, he that is true, he that hath the key of David, he that openeth, and no man shutteth; and shutteth, and no man openeth; I know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it: for thou hast a little strength, and hast kept My word, and hast not denied My name. Behold, I will make them of the synagogue of Satan, which say they are Jews, and are not, but do lie; behold, I will make them to come and worship before thy feet, and to know that I have loved thee. Because thou hast kept the word of My patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth. Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown. Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of My God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of My God, and the name of the city of My God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from My God: and I will write upon him my new name. He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches"
    (Revelation 3:7-13).
The church in Philadelphia was the true and sound church. Those folks in that church had established themselves on the solid foundation of their faith
    (Matthew 7:24).

Praying in the Holy Ghost (Spirit):
What does it mean to pray in the Holy Spirit? Since I am a Pentecostal, I am going to answer this from that perspective. God gave to each believer two wonderful gifts of Himself: one is the gift of Christ at salvation and the other is the gift of God the Holy Spirit when one receives the Baptism in the Holy Spirit
(Acts 2:4) and speaks in unknown tongues as the Spirit gives utterance. These two gifts were readily accepted by all Christians in the early church and this was the normal experience for each of them. And these same two spiritual gifts are available today by faith for every person who desires them. I have received both of mine, have you received both of yours?

From a Pentecostal perspective, praying in the Spirit is the same as praying in devotional tongues when a believer allows the Holy Spirit to pray through him or her. The Holy Spirit bubbles from your inner most spring (deep inside of you) and out flows spiritual rivers of living water. What a glorious time God and his child share as this happens on a daily basis in sweet fellowship. If you are saved but have not had this happen to you, I encourage you to ask God to baptize you with Himself and get others to pray with you so you can receive. God wants you to have power today to live the Christian life and to share His Word with others. Remember, seek the Baptizer and not the baptism. As a pair of dress shoes comes with a tongue, so also this baptism comes with speaking in tongues. If you are a Christian who has already received this gift, I encourage you to pray and speak in tongues every day. It is wonderful to have your prayer life enhanced in such a way and it is a great way to have fellowship with the Lord.

Keep yourselves in the love of God:
Stay on the salvation train with God's love. Don't get off at the train stop called hatred. Don't get off at the train stop called unforgiveness or bitterness. Don't get off at any train stop that may cause you to leave your first love:

"Unto the angel of the church of Ephesus write; these things saith He that holdeth the seven stars in His right hand, Who walketh in the midst of the seven golden candlesticks; I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars: and hast borne, and hast patience, and for My name's sake hast laboured, and hast not fainted. Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love. Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent. But this thou hast, that thou hatest the deeds of the Nicolaitanes, which I also hate. He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; to him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God"
    (Revelation 2:1-7).
Some folks in the church of Ephesus had left their first love. Let us not fall into the same spiritual trap that they fell into. Let's stay in obedience to our Lord and keep ourself saturated with His love day by day until our life on this earth is completed.

Let's show love, hate the nature of the flesh, and get others saved
(looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life
You and I should always show love to others. It is the only way that we are going to win them to the Lord so they can also partake of Christ's mercy unto eternal life. To show His love through us, we have to hate our nature of the flesh. If you take the English word "flesh", take the "h" off of it and spell it backwards, it spells "self". Let's always crucify our carnal self nature on a daily basis- stomp down our "old man" so we can be more like Christ. Let's share God's Word with others in the hope of getting them saved, even if we have to tell them about hell fire (and the fear of it) to do so. If we can reach them just before they die, then it is like pulling them out of (hell) fire, so to speak.

    Section Four
We should have praise for our Savior

"Now unto Him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy, to the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and for ever. Amen"
    (Jude verses 24-25).

We should have praise for our Savior:
Christ is the Vine and we are the branches. As long as you and I stay attached to the Vine, we will have spiritual sap flowing through us in order to produce fruit. Christ will help each of us to do that. Why should we praise God? Because it is wonderful to be washed in His blood and justified by His righteousness. That is something money can't buy. And we should praise Him for providing that for us.

He will guard us (so as to be) without falling. He will present us faultless or "blameless" in the presence of His glory- that is, before Himself, when He shall rule in Heaven. Each of us will be presented by Christ in perfect holiness, in complete righteousness, and in white robes of glory. There will be joy because we will have been delivered from sin, sorrow, death, and from every one of our enemies. We will be reunited with our saved loved ones and there will be much happiness that we shall enjoy. Exceeding joy is "joy with exultation" as those who leap for joy. What a great time that will be. Let's praise our Savior because He is so wonderful.
